Description
Toward the end of the war, recruitment levels for women were still lower than the government had expected. An ongoing debate ensued as to whether or not women should have been drafted: if men were forced into the war effort, some thought women should be too. The conscription of nurses was a bill that was almost signed in 1945, but before it could make its way to the Senate, the war had ended.
