Red Cross Funding Station, Toledo, Ohio 1942

As compelling as it is to gain an aerial point-of-view on the collective efforts of women during World War II, some of the most significant facts come from our very own city.  Even though hundreds-of-thousands of American women took part in the war effort, it is pertinent to remember that many Toledo women contributed to these statistics.  Toledo women entered local manufacturing plants to aid in war production, enlisted in the military to help defend the country, as well as became nurses and Red Cross volunteers to ensure good health and wellness for the Toledo community and beyond.  The contributions that these women made to the war effort not only exemplifies the vitality and perseverance of Toledo women, but also the integrity of the Toledo community as a whole, coming together to make a difference.
